The NYC performance for the release of the "Promises Made" album was a success!
The album Is now available In stores and online.
It ranked the 5th in Billboard chart, and heard that it keeps going up.
Please support this wonderful charity project. Proceeds of the sales of the CD will be used to purchase mosquito nets, anti-malaria medicines and other basic tools that will improve the health and economic opportunities of rural communities across Africa.

Hope everyone is having a joyful and peaceful week. : )

Thank you for your support for Father's day "Acoustic Journey" trio concert for SOJA In Powder Springs, GA.
The house was packed and we had a great time.

I had been In Orlando, FL this week, recording a duo album with vibraphonist Christian Tamburr.
Christian used to perform for Julio Iglesias as his musical director.

The recording was a live radio broadcasting @ UCF @ their jazz station WUCF. Christian is a great composer and wrote several original pieces. We also recorded two of my originals and some standards.
We received several positive feedbacks from the listeners. It will be a nice album.

UCF TV station did a live shoot for the concert, and you can view it at www.UCF.tv later.

Christian and I have a two week tour of Japan In July coming up. We will be playing at my hometown jazz festival In Yuki, Ibaraki, jazz clubs and festivals In the Tokyo area and the south, and we will also perform at two Buddhist temples! Exciting! : ) I will post more details.

I will have another tour of Japan this fall with drummer Mr. Marty Morell, performing our Bill Evans Tribute program.

Tonight, I will be at Churchill Grounds with the Sparrow Trio. It will be an spontaneous and inspirational experience. Please join us.

Hi everyone,

How is it going? Hope everyone is doing well and feeling peaceful.

I just returned to ATL from Asheville, NC.
The "Acoustic Journey" trio performed at the Diana Wortham Theater for the WNC Jazz society.
The members were Zack Pride on bass and Marlon Patton on drums - they are the original recording members for our new release, "Acoustic Journey" CD. The trio had a tour of Japan In March, celebrating our new releases, 'Acoustic Journey' and 'Music for Koto and a Jazz Piano Trio 2" albums.
It was so special to return to the theater, because the trio played together for the first time for the same concert accompanying the trumpeter Marcus Printup two years ago. It was the match making concert for this trio.

Before heading to Asheville, we had the privilege to rehearse and relax at Marlon's parents' place in Clayton, GA, a beautiful lake side house in the mountains.

For the concert, we focused on 'being In the moment' and the concert was powerful. : )
We featured the new songs from the new releases, and we sold out the Koto cd's after the concert.

Day after the concert, we went to the natural hot springs in the mountains and relaxed some more.

It was a beautiful tour. : )

Much gratitude to the people and the audience who made the concert possible. Arigatou!

For this Father's day Sunday, I am playing another "Acoustic Journey" concert in Powder Springs GA.
It is for the home concert series for SOJA and It is at my student, Mr. Posey Miller's house.
The trio features the special members; my mentor Bernard Linnette on drums and Marc Miller on bass.

This lyrical look at the life and times of one of America's jazz icons is set right in the middle of a career that spanned from the Roaring Twenties through the Civil Rights Movement. Going on the road with the great Duke Ellington is one cool cat. From the early days in the pool halls to the concert halls performing before crowned heads, this feisty feline has been there at Duke's side, sometimes even sitting in with the band. But, not everything is in rhythm on the day that Duke is to play a suite in honor of the Queen of England and the score has been stolen! Will his cat find the music and get it to the Duke in time? This is a great introduction to jazz and American History for all ages.

Back by popular demand, Misa Productions presents the Takana Miyamoto Trio, serving up another menu of incredible music for hungry Bill Evans fans and the newly converted! Atlanta- based Japanese pianist Takana Miyamoto, bassist Tommy Sauter and the original Bill Evans Trio drummer for 7 years, Marty Morell, will grace the stage once again for this Friday night's performance at the High museum and this Saturday night at The Whisper Room of Churchill Grounds.

July 14, 2006 marked the beginning of what has evolved into a series of tributes to the innovative jazz pianist Bill Evans. The first concert, A Tribute – Bill Evans, fulfilled Takana's lifelong dream to perform the powerful chord progressions and intricate nuances characteristic of Evans' style. The audience, aware by announcement that the players had never performed together before, were treated to the authentic version of the Bill Evans Trio interplay. The four sets consisted of breath-taking performances of Evans' most popular songs including Blue in Green, Waltz for Debbie, Autumn Leaves, Milestones and Nardis. Takana's rendition of Evans' solo on Symbiosis- first movement exuded the sensitive mastery of Evans' lyrical expression leaving the room in complete silence until the last note.

So why limit it to the trio? The overwhelming success of this tribute led to the creation of Take Two, music taken from the 'Tony Bennett/Bill Evans' and 'Together Again' albums that Evans recorded with the legendary Tony Bennett. Performed October 20 & 21 at the Whisper Room, this tribute showcased the art of the duet with internationally acclaimed vocalist Allan Harris and Takana Miyamoto on piano.
Harris' soulful renditions of the classics; Touch of Your Lips, My Foolish Heart and Days of Wine and Roses were framed in a romantic stage setting with Takana skillfully holding court. Extraordinary piano solos on How My Heart Sings, Waltz for Debbie and You Must Believe in combination with Takana's intuitive connection as an accompanist
confirms the genius of Bill Evans. A cross-section audience of nostalgic Tony Bennett fans, die-hard Allan Harris supporters and the ever increasing Takana Miyamoto following experienced the intimate synchronicity of these two performers and begged for more.

Slated for 2007, part three of the series, Evolution, will feature selections from the first two tributes and an additional segment of Bill Evans / Miles Davis during their collaboration on the 1959 jazz classic, 'Kind of Blue' album. Twice Grammy-nominated trumpeter Russell Gunn has signed on for this project.

I am back in ATL! : )
Tonight (Wed 9/6) at 9pm I will be playing in the organ trio with trumpeter Russell Gunn and Drummer Terreon Gully at Churchill Grounds. Please join us.

The tour in Japan was great. I was there for six weeks, and played 20-some concerts. I had a great time with my family, friends, and did some traveling and lots of partying. : )

I invited drummer Bernard Linnette from Atlanta to play at my home town jazz festival, then toured with him for two weeks. Everyone there loved his playing and Bernard really loved Japan. My mother took us out to the Nikko mountains and enjoyed the beautiful shrine called Tosho guh, lakes, water falls and fresh air.

After Bernard left Japan, I traveled to the north with vocalist/hlugelhorn player TOKU and guitarist Yosuke Onuma. It was my first time to play with Yosuke and I really enjoyed it. I respect his spirit and musicianship. The rhythm section was also great with Yosuke Inoue (bass) and Masa Osaka (dr). The same band did three nights at Motion Blue Yokohama and it was wonderful.

I also had opportunities to play with Japan's fine musicians such as Charito (voc), Erika Satoh (bass), Koichi Osamu (bass), Daiki Yasukagawa (bass), Issei Igarashi (trp), Yasushi Yoneki (bass), Hideo Kawahara (bass), Junji Hirose (dr), and Masayuki Tawarayama (bass).

Concerts with the koto master Junko Takeo ended my touring in Japan this summer. We recorded an album in April in Atlanta with my trio, and we played the music from the album in a duo setting just with the two of us. We are planning to take the program to the Carnegie Hall in NYC next year.

After my tour was over, my parents, their dog and I took a trip to the west. We drove to a beautiful peninsula called Chita, and stayed at a natural spa resort hotel by the beach. Next day, we took a ferry, visited some temples and shrines, and came home. The trip was beautiful and bonding.

Having six weeks allowed me to not rush and enjoy everything. It's nice to take such long time to go home.

Now I am ready for ATL! I love this town. I am enjoying my new house and the beautiful weather!
I am renewed and inspired for creating more music.

Hi,

Hope all of you are well. A long time since I wrote the last takana.net newsletter.

Happy birthday to me ~ ! Today is my birthday!
I started out my day sitting outside in my back yard, watching the sun rise with a cup of jasmine tea.

Backyard? Oh, yes.....
I bought a house (brand new!) and moved to the campcreek area near the airport. It is a new neighborhood, right behind the Campcreek marketplace shopping mall, and there is a beautiful lake near by. My long-time dream was to have a house with a fireplace, and play my grand piano with a cup of hot chocolate with whipped cream on top. I just bought the ingredients for the drink, so my dream will be accomplished soon. Then on to my next dream.....

Other than making the house my home, I have been occupied with music production in studio, concert production, and Japan tour management since the spring time. I would love to share some of recent happy happenings with you.

-Wrote music for a feature film, 'Dear Willie'.
-Produced and composed for a Koto & Piano album for a great koto master Junko Takeo, and did a concert at the residence of the Consul General of Japan, Shoji Ogawa
-Produced a jazz album with Kirk Whalum featuring great guests (more info to be posted)
-Received an award from Asian American Community in GA (www.Sachikoto.com)
-My mother visited NYC and Dizzy's Jazz club
-Did "Lizz & Takana" show with vocalist Lizz Wright
-Drummer John Roberts invited me to join the church band and started playing at Destiny World church intown location every Sunday
-Studio engineer Alex Lowe, and Saxophonist/producer Daisuke Fujiwara got married. Congrats.
-Drummer Terreon Gully and Ramona, and Che Marshall & Kariana are engaged and to be married soon. Congrats.
-Took a break from teaching in the spring
-Did my moving in three hours, thanks to my assistant Sasha and my friends !

-My brother in Japan created his own diet program and lost over 100 pounds in a few months!

Hello, : ) I hope everyone's enjoying the beautiful weekend.

Thank you for your support for the concert with Che Marshall(dr), Darryl Reeves(sax) and Joel Powell (bass) at Churchill Grounds last night. The music was great, and it was well attended. We had some highlight moments with a few great guest musicians sitting in with us, including saxophonists David Sanchez and Kebbi Williams. We'll be there again tonight starting at 9:15pm.

Creative Loafing featured me this week in their 'profile' section on page 91. The article and the photo came out really nice. Thank you, Carlton Hargro (writer) and Shabiroon Jumaralli (photographer) @ creative loafing. Carlton also DJ's online at www.audiofloss.com.

I am producing an album in end of April for ms. Junko Takeo, the expert of Japanese traditional instrument Koto. I am writing new compositions and arrangements for her to record with my jazz trio.

Hello,

I am just returning from Florida. I was playing with a French vocalist Ilona Knopfler, opening for Burt Bacharach. (Ilona will be at the Blue Room in April.) Burt did a show with his 9 piece band, playing all his original music. He has written so many hit songs! The orchestration and the arrangement was just beautiful.

I'd like to thank Synchronicity for inviting me as a panelist for their 4th annual 'women in the arts' luncheon on 3/23.
(www.synchrotheatre.com.) It was a great event to raise the awareness and bring the women in the arts together.

Congratulations to the Blue Room for their grand opening nights with Bernard Purdie trio!

Creative Loafing featured me in their 'profile' section. It will be in the next week issue on 4/6.

My friend TOKU is visiting from Tokyo this weekend. You can catch his rare appearance in the US at the Renaissance Waverly jazz brunch this Sunday.

Thank you for your support for the ATLove Project show at the blue room on 1/10. The room was packed, and the music and the art were well received.
That was a great start and more is coming soon.

I attended the IAJE (international Association of Jazz Education) conference in NYC 1/11-14.
I saw great concerts and had great meetings. The next year will be in NYC again. I wish for IAJE conference to happen in Japan soon.

Today, I performed at the new year party for the Japanese chamber of commerce of Atlanta. Those who attended, thanks for listening. I was glad to share beautiful Japanese music with you.

I am getting ready to leave for the tour of Japan with Toku, Michiko Suzuki and Rene Marie.

Hi,

I have been house searching! It is such a life-defining process and I enjoy every moment of it. My realtor Kayono has been so kind and accommodating with me. I want a sunny house in the Atlanta area with 2-3 bed rooms, 1 & 1/2 bath with a fireplace where I can feel safe and creative, play music, paint and relax. Please let me know if you know one.

I have been scoring music for a theater production 'The Long Christmas Ride Home.' The play premiers on Nov. 12th at Actor's express. (www.synchronicity.com) I have a degree in Film Scoring and this is the first time I am scoring for a theater production.

Thank you for your support this Thursday for the premier of my latest music, the ATLove project. We also played pieces from my Tree Song and Live at Churchill CD's. We will be there for the next three Thursdays.

The Japan Fest is at the Stone Mountain Park this week end. It is an annual festival where you can enjoy Japanese arts, food, venders and music/dance performances. I'll be performing a set of Jazz and Japanese music on Sunday at 4pm. Open to public.

Thank you for your support for the Ede Wright benefit concert at Churchill Grounds last Sunday. It was well attended and we received good support for Ede. He was shot two weeks ago in front of his aprtment oin Virginia Highland area, and he is now out of the hospital and resting at home. Hi everyone,
I flew back from Japan to my home Atlanta on 8/11! It is great to be home. I missed Atlanta so much while I was away.
My friends and family were well and I had a great time. (also great food!)
The night I got back, I went to hear Russell Gunn at Churchill.
There were many musicians playing and sitting in with him, and the night was special. I enjoyed myself with friends till 3am that night.
I had a great 8-day tour in Japan with vocalist Rene Marie and drummer Quentin Baxter. We touched many people with music and love.
A club in Tokyo 'Body and Soul' loved us and asked us back for next February to do a one-week straight engagement.
We played my hometown festival in Yuki, concert venues and clubs in the Tokyo area with Japanese bassists and a vocalist Michiko Suzuki. I love seeing musicians from US and Japan uniting through music, and I feel that is my mission to connect these two countries with music. I dream to bring many more musicians from the states to perform in Japan.
After the tour in Japan, my parents took Rene, Michiko and me to the Nikko mountains and the Kinugawa hot spring resort. The hotel had an outdoor bath on the top floor, surrounded by the mountains, and it was just heavenly. : )
In the fall, musicians from Japan may be visiting me. I'd love to feature them in concerts. Let me know if anyone is interested in booking us. Happy 4th, everyone! We are in the second half of the year already.
It has been a productive and inspiring year for me.

I am getting ready to go to Japan for a tour in the Tokyo area with vocalist Rene Marie and drummer Quentin Baxter.
Vocalist Michiko Suzuki, who was visiting Atlanta in March helped put the tour together, and she will be guesting on the shows as well.
My hometown Yuki's festival is celebrating the 10th year. Rene, Quentin, Michiko, and the special guest, vocalist/flugelhorn player Toku will be gracing the celebration.

In June, I performed with vibraphonist, Christian Tamburr, who you may have seen at the Atlanta Jazz festival. It was the first time playing with him and his band (Justin Varnes on drums, and Elisa Pruett on bass - this lady can swing!!), and it was magical. Christian and I decided to go in the studio to track some duo tunes informally, and it turned out so great that now we have a duo album. It will be available for purchase at takana.net soon. We are looking forward to doing duo concerts as well.

I will be performing solo piano at the High museum after hours this Thursday. Hope to see you there.

Good morning! How's everyone?
Today is my birthday. I was born on 6/22, 1974 @ 2:30am in Yuki, Ibaraki, Japan. That makes me a Cancerian.
I started my morning w/ a cup of ginger tea, petting my cat Maru, and burning candles to Rubinstein's Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.2.
Leading to my B'day, I have been focusing on my joy and fear. I feel that I have a deeper understanding and acceptance for them.
The party/jam session on Sunday at Churchill with Chanda McKnight was a blast. Thank your for your support.
There was another party for Kerisha and me at Regina Rice's house on Monday night. Thanks everyone!
I'd like to congratulate the visit of Shuya Okino, the producer for Kyoto Jazz Massive/ owner of the club in Tokyo 'The Room' to Atlanta, made possible by DJ/producer Karl Injex. Bassist/composer/producer Khari Cabral Simmons and vocalist Julie Dexter's bossa nova album is being released soon.

Hi everyone,
The jam session at Churchill Grounds on Monday was incredible!
The session was led by Russell Gunn, w/ Craig Shaw on bass, Quentin Baxter on drums and myself on Piano in the band.
It was like a mini Atlanta Jazz Festival at Churchill Grounds. Great artists came and performed; Carmen & Curtis Lundy and her band, Andy Bey and his band, Rene Marie, Bernard Linnette and his band, John Hicks, Marcus Printup and many more. Carmen and Rene brought beautiful energy into the room. Andy Bey started on the piano, and later he played with his group. The session ended with a 4 trumpeter battle with Russell, Lee Hogans, Melvin Jones and Marcus Printup. It was a special, beautiful night.
I will be performing a solo piano concert at the High museum tomorrow 5-9pm. Later at 10pm, I'll be at Churchill Grounds with Russell Gunn. (Don't worry, I do this all the time with love.) Hope to see you there,Takana

Hi, The recording w/ Julie Dexter (voc) turned out great! It is an acoustic jazz standard CD. Julie and I are producing together. We are shooting for a release in Sept'05. I'll post more info.
'THE SPARROW TRIO', the organ trio with Chris Burrough's (dr) and Ede Wright (Guit) performed @ the ATL airport. It is always great to play with Ede and Chris. The trio also has finished a great CD recording.
I am also working on a Japan tour In July in the Tokyo area featuring vocalist Rene Marie and drummer Quentin Baxter. I hope this tour will lead me to bring more musicians from USA to Japan.

I just got back from NYC. I was staying with my friend Hanayo (who designed my Piano Tales CD with me) in Brooklyn. I decided to extend my stay to relax and see my friends. ( In case you didn't know, I have lived in Atl, GA since 2002) I was at the recording session for Kirk Whalum on 4/26, and it went well. Kirk's is recording a Babyface cover project. The rhythm section was Christian McBride on bass and John Roberts (from ATL!) on Drums. I played piano and Rhodes on 4 songs. Everyone involved was very nice, easy and loving, and it shows in music. I'll post more info.

Wow! I am so excited about this. I met Kirk at vocalist Nnenna Freelon's recording session, and he produced a track on her "Soulcall" CD. (I played piano on the track.) He is a great musician/producer and such a nice person. We connected again in Charleston last year when I played w/ Quentin Baxters quartet opening for Kirk. I will also be performing with his group in May in KY.

Thank you for your support for the Bernard Linnette Interactive Sextet concerts feat. Don Braden and Rene Marie @ Churchill Grounds last weekend. Both nights were magiacal.
My friend Michiko Suzuki, a vocalist visiting from Tokyo sat in on "God Bless the Child" on a duet with Rene Marie.
I will be presenting a group of special talents from Atlanta tomorrow at the Jazz Loft.
It will be an inspiring and healing night of music, aroma and candles.
The opening set is a duo with Julie Dexter. We willl perform soft and beautiful songs which features her beautiful voice.
The main set will be the same group that performed at the Black Arts Festival last year; Kebbi, Che and Dre.
I am so pleased to be able to make music with the incredible talents from this town.
We are also expecting some more special guests to join us on stage.

Jazz @ Lincoln Center
This week end, I performed at the new room at the Lincoln Center called the Allen Room with vocalist Rene Marie. The venue is in a new shopping mall at the Columbus Circle. It's a beautiful place looking down Central Park and W 60th street through an all-glass wall behind the stage. I had the best seat playing the piano and looking at the view.

The snow is letting me stay in NYC for an extra night. I am staying with my friend and having a dinner gathering with Japanese friends. I will be back in Atlanta on Mon.
Takana on TV commercial
I am going to be acting on a national TV commercial for a hair conditioner called "Takedown"! I even have a short line to say in Japanese. The shooting is this week in Atlanta.
My Japan Visit
I was in Japan for a month from 12/13-1/12. I was staying with my parents in Yuki, Ibaraki, 90 min. North of Tokyo. It was great to spend time with my family and celebrate end/beinning of the year. We don't celebrate X'mas in Japan as much as people do in US, but we do the new year and the eve as big family events.
12/18-23 was a tour with my trio in the Tokyo area with drummer Quentin Baxter. Quentin left back to the states on X'mas eve. On X'mas day I went to Blue Note Tokyo to hear my friend Lizz Wright. We hung out before the show and we went to the Sensoji temple in Asakusa. After her show I met Vocalist/Trumpeter TOKU. He took me to "Body and Soul" where I was introduced to great musicians from Tokyo ; Drummer Tommy Campbell, vocalist Michiko Suzuki, Trumpeter Issei Igarashi, Guitarist Yosuke Onuma, Bassist Yoshio Suzuki and many more. I also saw some musicians from USA who came out there after playing at the Blue Note with the McCoy Tyner big band. I am excited about the Tokyo music scene. I plan to spend more time there in future.

Hello. How's everyone? I had a wonderful trip with my parents to the Niagara Falls, New Orleans and Richmond, VA. It was great to spend time with them and show them around. As they left to go back to Japan, I left for the week-long tour with vocalist Rene Marie in MN and MO. Hi everyone! I had a great tour in Israel with Russell Gunn's "Bionics" at the Red Sea Jazz Festival. It was in a beach resort town called Elat close to the borders of Jordan and Egypt. We had two concerts at the festival and all of us played and partied at the jam session till dawn every night. We had a day off, and we went to a ranch in the desert to ride the camels. It was an amazing tour. The band appears every Thursday at Churchill Grounds.

Hi everyone,
Hope everyone had a great summer. I am back in Atlanta, after completing tours in Japan with my trio, and in Colorado with vocalist Rene Marie. I had a wonderful time. I had three concerts in Japan with my trio featuring Quentin Baxter on drums, and everyone loved him there. He is already scheduled to go back to Japan and perform in December 2004 and Summer of 2005.

Hello everyone!
I've been in Japan since 1/27. I just finished my last concert in Japan this time. I had six concerts total and all went fine. On the days off, I had a wonderful time with my family and friends. I was always around good people, good food, and good music.

Hello everyone!
I just got back from a wonderful tour with vocalist Rene Marie, bassist Herman Burney and drummer Quentin Baxter. We performed in Seattle, San Fransisco, Santa Cruz and Los Angels. It was a ten-day tour, and we performed everynight. The music was great, truthful and spiritual to me. Every time we played, I learned something new.
It is good to be back home in Atlanta. Looking forward to seeing my friends, teachers, students and music fans!

How is everyone? I am finally back from Japan. I was away for seven weeks (!) and had a great time making music and spending time with friends and family members. It is great to be back in Atlanta!

Women Looking Ahead Inc. (www.womenlookingahead.com) selected Takana to be in their "List of Georgia's Most Powerful and Influential Woman" as a music composer, and they featured her in the fall 2002 issue of their magazine as "an extraordinary talent"!
Takana also performed her original compostion at the Gala on 10/4'02.
